DIETHYLALUMINUM CYANIDE SOLUTION - Introduction
(Cyano-C)diethylaluminium is an organoaluminum compound. Its chemical formula is (C₂ H₂) ₂ AlCN, which is a colorless liquid that will decompose into a bright blue solid in the atmosphere. It has a pungent odor and is soluble in organic solvents.
(Cyano-C)diethylaluminium is mainly used as a strong base catalyst in organic synthesis reactions. It can catalyze the polymerization of olefins, the rearrangement of amines and cyclization reactions. In addition, it is also commonly used for the preparation of other organoaluminum compounds.
The preparation (Cyano-C)diethylaluminium is usually achieved by reacting ethyl aluminum chloride and potassium cyanide. Potassium cyanide was first dissolved in dry ether, and then ethylaluminum chloride was slowly added to the reaction to form (Cyano-C)diethylaluminium.
